Born in St. Louis, Pastor Bowder attended Zion Lutheran School, and then on to St. Paul’s College High and College in Concordia, Missouri. From there he earned his B.S. in Lutheran Education from Concordia Teacher’s College in Seward, Nebraska. He taught at St. Paul’s in Latimer, Iowa and then came to Trinity Lutheran Church after being married to Fern in 1977. He earned a M.Ed. from the University of Missouri in 1983 and after teaching for twenty years went to Concordia Seminary St. Louis and earned his Masters in Religion. He was was sole pastor at Immanuel, Honey Creek, and then returned to Trinity Lutheran Church to serve as Senior Pastor. In 2013 he celebrates 37 years of ministry in the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. He and Fern have two sons, Joshua who is living in Springfield, Mo. and Joseph living in Kansas City, Mo.
Pastor Powell was born in Fairfax, Virginia and raised in California, Missouri. He attended Concordia University, Nebraska and in 2006 received Bachelors of Science degree in Secondary Education with emphasis in history and theology. He then went on to Concordia Seminary, St. Louis where he received his masters of divinity degree in 2010. He was installed as the associate pastor at Trinity on August 1, 2010. Pastor Powell and his wife Lisa are the parents of three children: Elliott, Emerson, and Heather. Outside of church Pastor Powell is active with the American Red Cross as a member of the local board of directors and as a health and safety instructor.
Pastor Ken Funke was born and raised in Colorado and attended St. John’s College, Winfield, Kansas, Concordia-Seward, and Concordia-St. Paul, Minnesota. Pastor Funke graduated from Concordia Seminary-Fort Wayne in 1980. He served as pastor of a dual parish in Snyder, Nebraska, for 6 years and at St. John’s, Sanborn, Iowa, for 18 years before being called to Trinity as Director of Worship in 2004. He and his wife, Linda, have four children (all graduates of Concordia University Mequon) and 10 grandchildren. Their family is spread across the country living in Denver, Cleveland, Milwaukee, and Seymour, Indiana.
Mr. Gonzales received his Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from St. John’s College, Winfield, Kansas in 1983. He completed his Master’s degree in 1994 from Pittsburg State University, Pittsburg, Kansas. Mr. Gonzales taught science at Trinity from 1998 through 2015. During that time he was also the athletic director. In 2015 he was called to be the principal at Trinity. His wife Rachael, teaches first grade at Trinity. They have two sons, a daughter-in-law, and one grandchild. His favorite Bible passage is Romans 3:23-24.
Mrs. Forgey is in her 7th year as school secretary at Trinity. She graduated from Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, IN with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. Her favorite Bible verses are Philippians 3:13-14.
Ms. Doelling graduated from Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska in 1999. She taught 1st grade in Huntsville, Alabama for four years and came to Trinity to teach 4th grade in 2004. She moved to kindergarten in 2009. She has been a foster parent since May of 2011. She has one daughter, Naomee, who she adopted in 2015. Her favorite Bible verse is John 3:16.
Mrs. Resner received her AA degree from St. John’s College, Winfield, KS, Bachelor degree from Stephen’s College. She completed her colloquy through Concordia, Seward, NE, and Masters Degree from St. Mary’s in Kansas. She taught Pre-K at Zion Lutheran School for eight years, directed Trinity Lutheran’s Early Childhood Center for three years, and has taught kindergarten at Trinity since 1999. Her husband, Steve, teaches 8th grade at Trinity Lutheran School. She has two sons and five grandchildren. Her favorite bible verse is “I have no greater joy than knowing my children walk in the truth.” 3rd John 1:4.
Mrs. Rachael Gonzales has been teaching First grade at Trinity since 1998. She received her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Elementary Education from St. John’s College, Winfield, Kansas in 1983. She received her Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of St. Mary, Leavenworth, Kansas in 2003. Rachael’s husband, Steve is the principal at Trinity. They have 2 sons, a daughter-in-law, and 2 grandchildren. Her favorite bible verse is Colossians 3:17.
Mrs. Martin is in her 17th year teaching at Trinity and her 33rd year of teaching overall. Prior to coming here, she taught remedial reading at Braymer, Missouri and kindergarten, second grade, learning disabilities aide, and substitute teaching for the Jefferson City Public Schools. She also worked as a secretary for the VA Hospital and Kansas City College of Osteopathic Medicine for 9 years. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Central Missouri State University, as well as a lifetime reading specialist certification. She completed her colloquy from Concordia University, Nebraska. Mrs. Martin and her husband Ed are blessed with two sons, Jacob and Jared, two daughters-in-law, and two granddaughters, McKenzie and Hadley. They are also excited about a new granddaughter in November, which will give them 3 beautiful granddaughters! Her favorite Bible verse is Matthew 7:7.
Mrs. Robinett is beginning her 20th year of teaching third grade at Trinity. She has a Bachelor of Science degree from Eastern Illinois University with her major in Elementary and Special Education. She also has an associates degree from Lake Land Junior College in Early Childhood Education. She completed her colloquy through Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska. She has teacher certificates in Elementry and Special Education in both Missouri and Illinois. Prior to coming to Trinity she taught Learning Disabilities for six years in Teutopolis, Illinois and served as a learning disabilities and behavior disorders teacher in the Jefferson City Public Schools for seven years. She is has been married to Jerry for 32 year. She is the proud mother of four sons. All four of the boys are Eagle Scouts. Her favorite Bible passage is Proverbs 22:6.
Ms. Schanbacher graduated from Concordia University Chicago with a Bachelors of Science degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in Art in 2009. She taught K-8 at a Lutheran school/home-school in Roswell, New Mexico from 2010-2012, and joined the Trinity community in 2012. She enjoys being able to teach the Word of God to her students everyday and participates in Trinity’s Praise Band and Handbell Choir. She also enjoys playing with the Jefferson City Community Symphonic Band. Her favorite Bible verse is Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death, but the FREE gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Mrs. Bleidistel graduated from California State University, Long Beach in 1993 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Liberal Studies with a Sociology concentration. She completed a 5th year graduate program to earn her Multiple Subject Teaching Credential in 1994 and completed her Colloquy through Concordia University, Nebraska in 2012. Mrs. Bleidistel taught for 5 years in the public schools in the state of California before moving to Missouri. She has taught at the Methodist Early Learning Center and Jefferson City Public Schools before starting at Trinity in 2010. Her favorite Bible verse is Psalm 46:10, “Be still, and know that I am God…”
I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Hannibal LaGrange University, Hannibal, MO and my Master’s Degree in Elementary Administration from William Woods University, Fulton, MO. I am currently working on my Colloquy through Concordia University. I am in my 12th year of teaching in public schools in MO and Trinity Lutheran combined. My favorite verse is Phillipians 4:13.
Mrs. Ziegelbein attended Concordia University, Seward, Nebraska and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education in 2008. She then taught third grade at Bethel Lutheran School in Morton, Illinois for two years. She began teaching fifth grade at Trinity Lutheran School in 2010. She currently enjoys coaching Trinity’s academic team. Her favorite Bible passage is Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Him who gives me strength.”
Mrs. Johnson is a 1995 graduate of Concordia University-River Forest, Illinois. She is in her sixteenth year of full-time ministry. Coaching Trinity’s academic team, teaching, and being mother of her fifth grader keep her busy. “Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Psalm 119:105 is her confirmation verse.
Mrs. Brunner grew up in Lockwood, Missouri, but has been blessed to teach in other midwestern states. This is her 15th year teaching, twelve of those years working with sixth graders. She received her bachelor’s degree in elementary and special education from Concordia University, Nebraska, and her master’s degree in youth developmental counseling from University of Dayton, Ohio. She taught in both Lutheran and public schools serving students with learning, emotional, and cognitive disabilities prior to her call to teach at Trinity. She feels blessed each day to share the message of her confirmation verse with her students: Be content with what you have because God has said, “Never will I leave you; Never will I forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5
Mrs. Going graduated from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. She is currently working on courses for Colloquoy through Concordia University Nebraska. Before coming to Trinity, Mrs. Going taught at Methodist Early Learning in Jefferson City and at Fayetteville Christian School in Fayetteville, North Carolina. She and her husband Ryan have been blessed with three sons. Her favorite Bible verse is “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9
Mrs. Kesel graduated in 1999 from Concordia University Mequon, WI with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Education. Before coming to Trinity she taught in Wausau, WI and Oviedo, FL. She is in her 9th year of teaching at Trinity. Her favorite Bible passage is Jeremiah 29:11.
Mrs. Huhmann graduated from University of Missouri. Her teaching experience includes students from kindergarten to adults. Her favorite Bible passage is Philippians 4:4-9.
Mr. Resner received his Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Ed. with minors in Mathematics and Religion from St. John’s College, Winfield, KS in 1983. He completed his Masters’ degree in 1993 from Pittsburg State Univ., Pittsburg, KS. Steve has been the 8th grade teacher at Trinity for 21 years. Steve’s first call was to Calvary, Kansas City, Mo, where he served four years. He then moved to Independence, KS, serving Zion Lutheran School as both teacher and Principal for eight yrs. His favorite Bible passage is his Confirmation verse, Eph. 2:8-9. Steve’s dad and both grandfathers served as Pastors, and his oldest son is a pastor in NW Iowa and his youngest son is a pastor in South Dakota. His wife, Debbie, teaches Kindergarten at Trinity.
Ms. Gerth attended Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska, where she received a Bachelor of Music Degree in Music Education. Her first call was to serve as a church music director and teacher in Holly Hill, FL. As the music teacher at Trinity, she is blessed to share the love and message of Christ through the amazing treasure of the Church’s music. Her favorite bible passage is Hebrews 12:1-2.
Mrs. Schatte has been teaching music since 1998. Prior to serving at Trinity, she taught at Redeemer Lutheran School in Austin, TX. She received her bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN and her Master of Music in Music Education from Kent State University. Mrs. Schatte is also a certified Orff Schulwerk instructor. She is married to Mr. William Schatte who teaches at Calvary Lutheran HIgh School. They have two daughters who attend Trinity Lutheran School. “Oh sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth! Sing to the Lord, bless his name; tell of his salvation from day to day.” Psalm 96:1-2
After graduating from Concordia University, Nebraska in 1999 Mrs. Ahlers received a call to teach music at Lutheran High North, Houston, TX and at 3 of the surrounding feeder schools. While there she met her husband Erich and also had two children. She stopped teaching to care for their children. Erich then received a call to be principal and teacher at Calvary Lutheran High School in Jefferson City. She has taught choir for 10 years and chapel band for 4 years at Calvary. This is her 5th year teaching Beginning and Advanced Band at Trinity. Her favorite Bible passage is Psalm 33:1-4 .
Mrs. Hollander came to Trinity in 2009 to serve as our art instructor for grades 5-8. Prior to that she taught in Independence, MO, Kearney, NE, and Raymore, MO. She has a Bachelors of Science degree in Art Education (K-12) from the University of Missouri and a masters in education from Webster University. Outside of teaching she serves as a member of the Jefferson City Art Club. Her favorite Bible passage is Psalm 118.
Mrs. Jennie Vogt is the Computer Technology Teacher at Trinity. She graduated from the University of Missouri, Columbia in 1998 with a degree in English / Spanish. She has been married to her best friend and wonderful husband, Michael, for almost 18 years. They have three daughters: Sydney (8th grade at TLS), Hannah (5th Grade at TLS), and Landrie, (First grade at TLS). Her favorite bible verse of the moment is Psalm 46:10 “Be still, and know that I am God…” It reminds her every day that we are here on His time and His agenda.
